7/21/07 Queer Youth Nation celebrates it’s 5th Year and honors GINA LAMB
REACH LA’s Queer Youth Nation survey of LGBT youth video production celebrated its 5th anniversary year at OUTFEST by screening a selection of the some of the best shorts included in the program over the last five years. The aim Queer Youth Nation is to showcase the unique stories of LGBTQ youth of color and to inspire other young people to tell their stories through digital media.
Many of the videos included in the program have traveled to international festivals and been seen by multitude of diverse audiences.
REACH LA has supported the LGBTQ youth filmmakers by offering free production workshops on an annual basis and produces 6-8 new short films per year. After the screening the youth filmmakers spoke about their work and answered questions from the audience. Youth filmmakers presenting were; Steven Liang, Maria Cruz, Kery Ramirez, Hector Flores, Genne Scott, Ana Lopez, Daniel Flores, and Raquel Garcia.
And surprise, surprise, at this anniversary screening the Youth Filmmakers honored Gina Lamb with an Honorary Gold Diva Platform Shoe award, a thank you painting, and bouquets of flowers. One of the main reasons the program has been so successful is the dedication of its creator Gina Lamb. Gina has worked as an artist in the community for over twenty years and is passionate about her work with young people. It was her vision that sparked the fire that is now Queer Youth Nation. Thank you Gina for all you hard work!
