at the REDCAT Theater
Walt Disney Concert Hall
631 W. Second Street, LA 90012

PRODUCED BY REACH LA
This year’s LGBTQ youth video production program features seven exciting young video-makers working in six different video genres to tell their unique stories of being young and queer in Southern California. Ranging from experimental performance to edgy narrative drama, diaristic expose to a mock-u-mentary fashioned with dolls. All of these videos are united by a need to render visible these close to the bone stories that ask us to look through the lens to the often hidden spectrum of LGBTQ youth.

VIDEOS INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM:

“IT’S ME CHER: A DOLL-U-MENTARY”
DIR: Timothy Ochoa/REACH LA 2008

A quirky mock-u-mentary about a gay icon (done in plastic) by a fellow Cher worshipper, whose ironic commentary oozes through the music and gay stereotypes.

“IF YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW PRESS PLAY”
DIR: Catey McSweeney/REACH LA 2008

A diaristic drama that documents a young teen’s struggle with gender identity – feeling unaccepted by his parents and lacking anyone else to talk to, begins to talk to his camera and document his pain.

“STILL MY CHILD”
DIR: Herb Tripp/REACH LA 2007

A mother and daughter caught in a long standing dysfunctional relationship struggle to find themselves and each other after years of hurt and abuse in this narrative drama. (note: we are screening a shortened version of a 45 minute video).

“STRUGGLE BEFORE DAWN”
DIR: Osuna/REACH LA 2008

The struggle of a gay boy confronting rejection and his disillusionment with the gay community, his home, and church comes to screen in this experimental performance based video.

“IN MY SKIN”
by Miguel Ruelas and Maria Cruz/REACH LA 2008

A young Latino man documents his process of going through gender transition. From his very first “T” shot to growing facial hair he lets us know what it takes to love himself and how it affects his family, work, and intimate relationships.

“THE PRETTY BOY KING OF HOLLYWOOD”
DIR: Maurice Lopez/REACH LA 2007

The infamous and engaging Pretty Boy King of Hollywood gives us the inside skinny on the Pretty Boy Empire, while taking us on whirlwind tour of the LGBT youth scene in Southern California and crowns this year’s Prince of the Pretty Boy Republic.
