Youth Arts Programs
In 2000, REACH LA opened a computer arts lab to focus on the development of creative and collaborative print, web and video projects by and for youth. REACH LA’s media-based workshops provide technical training in high-end digital graphics, web site development, design and publication. The desire to address social justice issues and educate others, frames the content of each project. Participants have produced HIV/AIDS focused websites, video documentaries, youth magazines, and visual arts exhibitions.
REACH LA's arts & technology youth participants have developed social marketing projects for the Los Angeles County HIV Prevention Planning Committee and Friends of Project 10, Inc. Many participants and program interns have gone on to higher education, professional internships, and employment due in part to their experience in the REACH LA's arts, culture, and technology program. In 2006, former REACH LA Outreach Coordinator, Ana Lopez, received the Colin Higgins Youth Courage Award, for overcoming adversity and her contribution to the Los Angeles LGBT youth community.
